Evaluation Of Culturally Appropriate Community Health Education On Diabetes Outcomes (2008). Resource Type: Publication. Description: This fact sheet provides the results of a study that examined the impact of health education utilization on HbA1c levels of diabetic patients at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (WCCHC). The results showed that health education visits are associated with improved HbA1c levels, and thus are essential to patient health care. This demonstrates that culturally and linguistically appropriate health education services are integral components of health center care for underserved populations and serve as effective tools to reduce barriers to care and diabetes health disparities. What happens when you give the community resources it needs: Using a Community-led Approach to Assess Farmworker COVID-19 Needs and Assistance (44869). Resource Type: Publication. Description: The Latino Community Fund, Inc. (LCF Georgia) was founded in 2017 to provide economic funding to groups that do critical work in the state but lack access to networks of funding and power. Fast forward to 2020, due to the onset of the pandemic, the community of South Georgia was especially impacted. The economic and social support needs of the community in southern Georgia led LCF Georgia to create the South Georgia Navigation Program (SGNP), a community led, community-staffed program. LHA’s Community Health Workers, also known as Promotores de Salud, demonstrated the importance of meeting community members where they are at and approaching complex topics creatively through a popular education approach. Description: The RWHP team and their collaborators tested participatory strategies to create multilingual resources alongside Indigenous communities. Materials included information about the COVID19 pandemic through mediums such as fotonovelas, audionovelas, and flyers translated into Indigenous languages and representing Indigenous peoples. Through an iterative process of evaluating and designing materials with feedback from Indigenous partners, RWHP focused on “localizing” resources to resonate better and ultimately better serve Indigenous communities. Removing vaccine access barriers by hosting on-farm vaccine clinics for dairy workers and their families    (44841). Resource Type: Publication. Description: Starting March 31, 2021, Dr. Anabel Rodriguez’s UT Health team and volunteer interpreters facilitated on-dairy farm COVID-19 vaccine clinics by bridging established relationships with Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Public Health Region 1 in Lubbock, Texas, and Aurora Organic Dairy in Stratford and Dublin, Texas. Dr. Rodriguez’s and her team’s farmworker research and outreach efforts and pre-existing relationships with producers in this rural region of Texas helped propel this initiative into action. This multi-agency vaccine collaboration created an open line of communication between the public health offices in the Texas Panhandle and the dairy farm leadership, dairy farm workers, and their families.
